In the opening lines of Dei Verbum, the Second Vatican Council names Revelation as God’s loving address to humanity — not a set of propositions, but a self-disclosure. God speaks not to inform but to invite. The Word is first and foremost a Person, and Scripture is the Spirit-breathed echo of His face.
To take Dei Verbum seriously is to read Scripture in the heart of the Church, in the company of the saints, with the same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles. It is to let the Word do its slow work in us: to console, to convict, to renew, until we are gradually shaped into the image of the One who is the Word made flesh.
