On the day of the Ascension the Apostles stand looking up at the sky, watching the One they have loved disappear into glory. Two angels meet them and ask the question the Church has been answering ever since: “Why are you standing there looking up at heaven?”

The Ascension does not take the Lord away from us. It plants His humanity at the heart of the Father, and pours His Spirit into the world. From this day on, the Church’s task is not to gaze, but to go — to carry the Word of God into every village, every workplace, every digital corner, until the whole creation hears the rumour of His name.

A placeholder homily — Fr Francis Afu’s actual reflections will replace this after the site is delivered.
